With the rapid development of economy and society, tire industry is of more and more importance in the field of transportation and manufacture. Strictly control the quality standards of the tires before delivery, and do the defect detection in the process of tire manufacture, which can not only ensure the safety and reliability of tire products, but also help tire manufacturing enterprises save the costing for late defective product reprocessing. Based on the tire imaging provided by X-ray testing equipment, using digital image processing technology can conduct a comprehensive inspection for the defects of the tire characteristics. After the in-depth research of X-ray detecting tires defects background and relevant defects detection system at home and abroad, combined with development and application of image feature detection algorithm and software engineering, the main content of this topic is the design and implementation of tire defect detection system, which meets the demand of Ling-Long tire production and works fully functionally and stably.The system development fully complies with the specifications of software engineering process, from requirements analysis to the system design phase, and then the algorithm design and the experimental stage, and finally the coding implementation phase of the system. Overall, the research and implementation of the system need excellent object-oriented application architecture design and application of image defects detection algorithm. In terms of overall solution design, the system based on the Client-Server mode is divided into client layer, service layer and data layer, satisfying the scenario that multi-client processes send the requests at the same time and support the backend server process central detection in the running environment. To maintain the steady network communication between client and server is the foundation of the system and data transmission model. The application of multi-thread mechanism can not only improve the detection efficiency of the server process, but also enhance the stability of the system. According to the tire defect detection system’s modules design scheme, the system is divided into five functional modules, namely the main frame module, the data transmission module, the image detection module, model setting module and results analysis module, and then in the system design phase the static structure and dynamic structure design of each module are presented in detail. In the design and application of algorithm, as the tire image defect detection algorithm is the key point in the system, this paper particularly introduces the design process of image feature detection algorithms. Through the classification of tires’common defects characteristics, the paper designs and experiments many image detection algorithms based on both texture extraction and texture irrelevant, respectively applied to the tire cord’s structure defects and tire crown’s crack defects and other complicated tire defect feature detection. These algorithms not only meet the requirements of the common tire defects identification, but also conform to the design of the system real time operation.The system is implemented in the Windows environment to do the application development work, and build the overall framework based on MFC. After the system is deployed online, the running results show that the tire defect detection system can not only detect the common characteristics of texture defects, but also provide testing services stably for a long time. So the system meets the tire manufacturing enterprises operating requirements. In addition, the system applies a serial of image feature detection algorithms into tire defects detection environment and obtains a very good effect, which will benefit the later maintenance work. Therefore, the research content of this topic has certain reference significance in the aspects of system research and algorithm application.
