Usability Design Of Camera APP On Dual Front Camera Phone

Popularity of the smart phone makes mobile phone APP deep into all aspects of people’s lives, so user experience research of the mobile phone APP is written into the agenda in the experience-centered era of product design. As an important aspect of user experience, the usability research of smart phone APP becomes an essential part in the design process.In the age of digital photo, the development of dual-camera technology has become the development trend of mobile phone camera technology and the camera APP is faced with the new development opportunity. L Mobile Communication Technology Co.Ltd. launched the S1 smart phone which is equipped with dual cameras. This thesis proposed the research topic-usability design of Camera APP on dual front camera phone based on the user experience research project of this phone camera APP when I worked in the company as an intern. The APP, on the basis of common functions, adds some new features included magic camera, magic iris and sleight based on dual-camera technology. This thesis uses the usability testing method to do usability evaluation for the common and specific functions, find usability problems, refine design elements and improve them, then do further usability evaluation of design improvement.On the basis of lots of literature research, I analyzed the particularity of mobile APP usage scenarios, and invited the target users to do usability testing in a laboratory, completing the test tasks of video, self-portrait, magic pictures, magic iris and transitional shadow. And they were encouraged to speak out their ideas during the test and did questionnaire after tasks and interviews. The tester needed to do recording work during the process. After the test, I analyzed the specific operating behavior, the success rate, task completion time, errors and other performance measurements, combined with user satisfaction and feedback, induct the existing usability problems. Then we induced the camera app usability problems of visual design and interactive design, refined design points and carried out improvement. Finally, a quick usability testing of the improvement design by paper prototype was conducted to evaluate whether the usability of camera app was improve or not.As an important usability evaluation method, usability testing has been used throughout the design process of the mobile camera App in order to find usability problems and make changes to prevent unnecessary losses because of the deviation of the design direction. This paper makes a case through the actual case of camera APP usability design on dual camera mobile phone, and confirms that the usability testing plays an important role in the design process of mobile APP.
