Wireless ad hoc networks are infrastructure-less wireless networks which are selforganized in a multi-hop manner. They have a wide variety of potential applications, such as military, business, social activities, emergency relief, etc., because of the easiness in deployment, the flexibility in organizing, and the wideness in coverage. High-capacity wireless ad hoc networking is a challenging open issue. With the purpose of exploring practical methods for wireless ad hoc networking, we try to offer an answer to the following question: As a node forwarding a data packet in a wireless ad hoc network, in order to achieve high capacity, at what time, over which channel, at what power level and to what node should the data be sent? This question will be answered in terms of algorithm and protocol, respectively. At the algorithm level, we will carry out a full-scale investigation of channel allocation, power control, and so on. At the protocol level, we will implement the algorithm of channel allocation and power control into a high-capacity networking protocol based on Bellman-Ford multi-hop routing protocol. Through the research on algorithms, and protocols for high-capacity ad hoc networking, we hope to drive the research and application of wireless ad hoc networks. The works in this paper are specifically summarized as follows:(1) Investigate and survey on the research status for the high-capacity networking technology. In terms of algorithm and protocol, we make a specific analysis on highcapacity networking technology, and detailed point out the issues of the current study.(2) Propose a novel node design scheme, which we call “one-transmitter-tworeceiver”. One mote has a transmitter and two receivers, of which one is for broadcast and the other is for unicast. We carry out the high-capacity algorithms which is applied to the particular node.(3) With the scheme of “one-transmitter-two-receiver”, design and implement a onetransmitter-two-receiver multi-channel protocol based on Bellman-Ford multi-hop routing protocol. We also solve the issue about routing loop and link broken, which is generally known in wireless ad hoc networks. With the help of this protocol, we study on the variety of high-capacity networking technology. We also prove some property of our multi-channel protocol with mathematical reasoning.(4) With the chain topology, we apply several TelosB motes to prove the efficiency of routing of our muli-channle protocol. Then, we apply software simulation with the help of TOSSIM for the test of the high-capacity communication. By collecting data, We testify the technical feasibility and performance of the one-transmitter-two-receiver multi-channel protocol according to the graphical visualization analysis.
