With the rapid development of the Internet, accessing to the Internet has become the people’s basic needs in daily working life and the safe operation of the network is increasingly the focus of network providers. User access and authentication, as a basis for network operation and management, has been offered a variety of access services for user access control by network providers. Among them, portal certification is widely used because of its no need to install the client.The reliability of access network determines whether the user can access to the network. As a key node, the failure of any single point of access device will cause the entire access network paralysis. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the normal operation of the access device to improve the reliability of the user access network.In this thesis, a dual hot backup scheme for portal authentication is proposed, which is based on the research of portal authentication techniques and the dual hot backup techniques. The main works of this thesis are as follows:1. A dual hot backup scheme for portal business has been proposed after analyzing the shortcomings of traditional hot backup schemes. The core parts of the scheme are the cooperative work of dual device and the user backup. The reliability of the working relationship between the dual devices can be guaranteed through the both negotiation by VRRP protocol and service module, and the efficiency of user backup can be ensured by the rate control mechanism based on Additive Increase Multiplicative Decrease algorithm, featuring fast switch and high backup efficiency.2. On the basis of the proposed dual hot backup scheme for portal business, a portal hot backup prototype is designed and implemented on the platform of Comware, H3C. The prototype consists of the dual devices cooperation module, the user authentication module, the user backup module and the user’s business recovery module. Based on the combination of VRRP protocol and portal business, the hot backup prototype for portal authentication is implemented.3. The function and performance tests of the hot backup prototype are conducted. Results validate the proposed dual hot backup scheme for portal business. The single point failure of portal authentication system is solved by the prototype and therefore it guarantees the reliability of access network.
