Radar as an important part of modern military systems, occupies an extremely important role in the military confrontation. The antenna is an important part of the radar system. Taking into account the needs of practical applications, antenna arrays which have the characteristics of low-profile, ultra-wideband, low cost and so on, will become the future direction of development. Traditional broadband antenna arrays can not meet these requirements, such as the traditional profile of Vivaldi antenna arrays which is high-profile and making more complex, while the bandwidth of traditional patch antenna arrays can not meet the ultra-wideband antenna claim. In view of the above requirements, some studies on the tightly-coupled ultra-wideband arrays is carried out in this paper, the main research content can be divided into the following sections:Firstly, the basic principle of traditional ultra-wideband arrays is introduced. The the principle of the tightly-coupling arrays and the methods to further broaden the bandwidth are analyzed.Secondly, the simulation of single-polarized tightly-coupled arrays using the principle of tightly-coupled arrays is presented. A new type of feed matching structure for tightly-coupled arrays is designed to ensure the characteristics of low profile, ultra-wideband, low cost and so on.Again, the design and analysis of dual-polarized tightly-coupled arrays is presented. This section discusses the problem of feed balance in depth and put forward the solutions of common-mode resonant problems. According to preliminary results, the array has been studied and optimized.We analyze the problem of radiaton pattern fluctuatons of finite tightly-coupled arrays and propose solutions. This lays the foundation for the actual processing and testing.Finally, the fabrication and measuring of the 8×8 and 8×16 size dual-polarized tightly-coupled arrays are presented.
