Encryption and steganography protect secrets from two different aspects. The former converts secrets into unreadable form, and the latter hides the secrets itself, so that they could not be detected. Reversible steganography in encrypted domain combines encryption with steganography organically, which can protect secrets from encryption and steganography aspects at the same time, and ideal for military, commercial, personal privacy and so on. The article will do some research on it.Firstly, we do some theoretical research on reversible steganography in encrypted image, elaborating the background, research status and application scenarios. It is vital for us to introduce the research status and typical algorithms of image encryption and steganography in detail because they are both the basis of reversible steganography in encrypted domain.Secondly, we study some existing algorithms of reversible steganography in encrypted image, and analyze their advantages and disadvantages. The existing algorithms have one or more following defects: inseparability, cannot extract secrets correctly, cannot restore plain image perfectly, only apply to unusual spatial image, lack of security. By summarizing their previous experience, and aiming at defects mentioned above, this article proposes a novel, suitable algorithm of reversible steganography in encrypted JPEG image.Thirdly, we design some experiments to verify the proposed algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can reversibly embed data in encrypted JPEG image, and can solve all the defects mentioned above. To further show the superiority of our proposed algorithm, we design a series of comparative experiments. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has more advantages than the existing algorithms under many performance indicators.Finally, by summarizing and analyzing the proposed algorithm, we point out its shortcomings and the further improvement, and indicate the direction of further research. At the same time, we make some prospect of the steganographic technique in encrypted JPEG image.
