At present, China’s growth model is gradually transformed to thecoordination pulling of consumption, investment and exports, insteadof only relying on investment and exports. Consumption is becoming asignificant power of driving economic growth. As the main body ofconsumption, residents’ consumption allows of no ignorance. Theconsumptions of urban residents and rural residents have differentinfluences on economic growth due to a typical dual economystructure in our country. In addition, with the reforming of economicsystem, economy development unbalance exists in different areas. Also, there are great differences in the effect of residents’consumptive expenditure on economic growth. The thesis focuses on district differences for urban and ruralresidents’ consumption and economic growth. On the basis of1996-2011panel data for30provinces and cities in China and thenonparametric kernel estimation method, semi-parametric panel datamodels for urban and rural residents’ consumption and economicgrowth are respectively established. The district differences areverified through empirical analysis. The main research contents are asfollows:1. Per capita gross domestic product (GDP), which reflectseconomic growth, is used as an explained variable. Per capitaresidents’ consumption is viewed as an explanatory variable. Two semi-parametric panel data models for urban residents’ consumptionand rural residents’ consumption in the eastern, central and westernregions of China are respectively established. The district differencesfor consumption and economic growth are analyzed from the view oftotal amount.2. Per capita GDP is used as an explained variable. Per capitafood, per capita clothing, per capita housing, per capita householdfacilities, per capita medical care, per capita communications, percapita cultural entertainment, per capita other services andcommodities are viewed as explanatory variables. Two semi-parametric panel data models for urban residents’ consumptionstructure and rural residents’ consumption structure in the eastern, central and western regions of China are respectively established. From the view of consumption structure, the district differences forconsumption and economic growth are also analyzed.3. According to the analysis results and the differentcharacteristics of regions. some relevant countermeasures andsuggestions are proposed.
