International competitiveness research began in the late 1970 of the 20th century to the early of 1980 and it is developing rapidly. With the development of economic globalization, the Governments and businesses focus on how to increase national competitiveness to gain a bigger share in the international market mostly. The national competitiveness is based on the industrial competitiveness, with the impact of a state system, cultural, environmental and other relevant factors. At present, in the world, the most famous institutions are the World Economic Forum and the Management School in Lausanne, Switzerland. They formed their own evaluation system. Under IMD international competitiveness evaluation system. WEF and IMD two theoretical frameworks are used for linear method did not take into account the complex network relationships among variables, relationships between economic variables is complex in itself, analysis of simple linear relationship itself is irrational. this paper discussed the limitations of linear evaluation method, and continue to use Michael porter’s "diamond" structure competitive decision thought, We create a Structural equation model by using IMD 59 countries’ Sample data from 1997 to 2011. And the country is divided into three stages of development. We analysis the empirical effect of the elements by the Structural equation model. We also compare the effect of elements in the different stages of economic development, and thus gained some important inspiration for how to improve our competitiveness. Conclusions are as follows: business efficiency and infrastructure is the core of competitiveness, Finance and Management Practices is the important driving force to enhance business efficiency, the level of environment and education is still the constraints of economic development.
