The Quality Of Entrepreneurs, Environmental Responsibility And Corporate Performance

China’s deepening and comprehensive reform is entering a historical turning period, the 18 th Report of the CPC suggests that we should vigorously promote ecological civilization construction and sustainable development strategy. “Decisions on Several Critical Issues about Reform” again emphasizes the importance of ecological civilization construction, which means to build an integral ecological civilization system to protect ecological environment. However, we are facing a severe environment situation caused by China’s extensive development model, huge resource consumption, and the inefficient use of resources. Problems such as inadequate laws and regulations, ineffective oversight, lax enforcement and the lack of incentives are confusing the government during the industry environmental supervising process. Most of the corporations are focusing on economic profits and regard the environment responsibility as a burden which they are not willing to take, and few real actions about environment supervising are carried out. If this situation continues, China’s environment will deteriorate endlessly, so the government and enterprises should move on to improve China’s environment situation. Whether an enterprise has an environmental develop sight depends, to some extent, on the quality of its entrepreneur; and whether a company is willing to fulfill its environmental responsibility depends on how much profit it will bring by investment in environment protecting. Therefore, this paper tries to find out the relationships among quality of entrepreneurs, environmental responsibility and corporate performance by empirical research and theoretical research. These researches will have important theoretical and practical significance for increasing corporate investment in environment protection and enhancing corporate performance as well as the introducing environmental regulations and policies by the government.Based on the 2013 listing Corporation environmental responsibility rating data, which was published by Environmental investigation committee of Chinese listing corporation, this paper take comparative analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis of the relationships and mechanism among the quality of entrepreneurs, corporate environmental responsibility and corporate performance, and get very robust results. The empirical results show that the quality of entrepreneurs is positive correlation with the environmental responsibility rate of enterprises, and the environmental responsibility rate of enterprises is positive correlation with the long-term firm performance and not correlation with the short-term firm performance. Meanwhile, the results show that regional environmental level is helpful for the quality of entrepreneurs and corporate environmental responsibility to playing their roles.By organically combining the quality of entrepreneurs, corporate environmental responsibility and corporate performance, and by analyzing their action mechanism, this paper broaden the research content of corporate environmental performance. In this paper, we take a comprehensive consideration of several factors such as age, education, tenure and so on to quantify the quality of entrepreneurs; ‘grade’ dummy variable and ‘score’ numerical variables are used to quantify corporate environment responsibility. This paper introduce regional environmental governance factors while researching the influence of environmental responsibility on enterprise performance, and get meaningful empirical conclusions which can provide data support for the government to make relevant policies, and furthermore, to achieve coordinated development of China’s economy, environment and society.
