Since the reform and opening up, China’s economy has taken off and continued to grow rapidly. People’s living standard has also been improved continually. However, when we have made remarkable achievements in the economic construction, income distribution imbalance has been a conspicuous problem, especially in the urban and rural areas. This problem is a serious challenge to the sustainable development of economy and the social equity and stability. The large income gap between the urban and rural areas in china has become an important issue which can not be avoided in the process of the socialist economic construction. Through the study on influencing factors of the urban-rural income gap, we can get some research conclusions which have the policy reference value, then propose some practical policy measures. Therefore, in-depth study on the influencing factors of income gap between the urban and rural areas in china has important practical significance for the healthy development of the national economy and the establishment of a harmonious society. This paper describes the present situation of the income gap between urban and rural in China from three aspects. Firstly, it analyzes the overall trend of urban-rural income gap since the reform and opening up. The urban-rural income gap has periodical characteristics, but the overall trend is expending. Secondly, it compares the difference between the composition of rural per capita net income and the composition of urban per capita disposable income. The changing trend and influence of wage income difference between the urban and rural residents’ income. Finally, It analyzes the urban-rural income characteristics of regional differences. The overall trend is that the western region has the largest income gap between urban and rural areas and the central region has larger urban-rural income gap than the eastern region.Combining the theoretical analysis and empirical analysis in this paper, it analyzes the factors which affect China’s urban and rural income gap, including dual economic structure, household registration system, social security system, fiscal policy, monetary policy, urbanization, industrialization, economic growth. Using co-integration test, error correction model(ECM) regression analysis to quantifiable factors, we found that dual economic structure, urbanization and fiscal policy is the main factors of the urban-rural income gap. On this basis, this paper summarizes the foreign policy measures that developed countries have taken to narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas, such as transforming dual economic structure, realizing the integration of urban and rural areas, increasing financial support for agriculture. The international experience plays a good reference and inspiration role in solving the issue of China’s urban-rural income gap and also provides a guide for subsequent policy research. Finally, based on theoretical analysis, empirical test results and international experience, it puts forward the policy recommendations which are consistent with the conditions of our country need to narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas in China.
