The Research Of The Impact Of The Total Factor Energy Efficiency On The Convergency Of Economic Growth Of Xinjiang

Since the western development policy,Xinjiang province has achieved a rapid development. However, the rapid economic development has brought a series of economic problems, the gap of regional economic began to deteriorate, the high energy consumption caused serious environmental damage. The energy efficiency is the key policy parameters to promote economic growth and reduce energy consumption. So the study of the impact of the energy efficiency to the convergence of the economic growth has important theoretical and practical signifycance which reveal the role of energy efficiency in the region’s economic growth or guide energy development st- rategy and regional economic development in Xinjiang.This paper selects the panel data which contain 14 region of Xinjiang from 2000 year to 2012 year. Firstly this paper use data envelopment analysis estimates the total factor energy efficiency of each region of Xinjiang. And this paper make a more systematic comparative analysis for the energy efficiency in all regions of Xin Jiang. Then the paper explored the characteristics of economic growth convergence in Xinjiang region since the development of western from the point of view of economic growth convergence. Through the study of this paper we found the following conclusions.Firstly,the trend of energy efficiency of Xinjiang presents first increased and then Downward. Trough a detailed analysis of the energy efficiency of Xinjiang region, we Found the energy efficiency have shown a downward trend, there are some areas which energy efficiency in the face of the efficient frontier. The energy efficiency presentgradient in southern and northern region, the southern region is energy efficient region and the northern region is energy inefficient area.Secondly, as the entire sample period selected, the economic growth showing weak convergence characteristics in Xinjiang region. When we separate the entire sample period from 2006 year, we found that the economic growth of Xinjiang showing weak convergence characteristics during the period from 2000 year to 2006 year. Howerer, the economic growth convergence characteristics has been enhanced after 2007 year.Thirdly, the impact of energy efficiency on the economic growth of Xinjiang region is weak, but it can affect the growth rate of the economy to a certain extent. The impact of energy efficiency on economic growth convergence characteristics of Xin-jiang region has been enhanced, but the impact of energy efficiency on the convergence properties is quite limited.Fourth, the energy efficiency can promote the economic growth convergence Characteristics to some extent for the northern region. However, for the southernregion, the energy efficiency failed to promote economic growth convergence andhas accelerated the divergence of economic growth of southern region.
