With the background of economic globalization the international community has established serious of formal and informal institutional arrangement for global economic governance. This paper select G20 for example to analyze the functions and characteristics of and predict the future informal regimes in the global economic governance,and the meanings for China.The change of the international system because of the rising of emerging economies, which is the root cause of the G20’s formation, while the financial crisis is the direct cause. In global economic governance, the characteristics of informal regimes are flexibility, and low transaction cost, the ability to the economic crisis, which make G20 play an important role in expanding the representation of the developing countries in global economic governance, promoting the reform of international institutions and the international financial cooperation. But disadvantages of the informal regimes are lacking of representation and effectiveness, and too widely issues.Informal regime is important for China to participate in global economic governance: reforming the global economic governance system, coordinating the relationship with powers, and striving for economic interest.
