With the rapid development of information technology, it is no longer applicable that companies only rely on competition to maximize their own interests, co-opetition strategy more and more attracts enterprises’ attention. And the competition in the 21st century has evolved into the competition between supply chains, each node enterprise in the supply chain should adopt co-opetition strategy to maximize the interests of the whole. However, supply chain management in China started relatively late, foreign scholars have studied the co-opetition strategy from different angle and developed a lot of theories, but mostly for European and American countries. The research findings for Chinese enterprises’ co-opetition is obviously insufficient, which lead to the theoretical research lag behind the development of Chinese enterprises co-opettiton practice. Current research perspectives about co-opetition mostly focused on the following two aspects:one is the vertical co-opetition between industrial chain and supply chain, the other is the horizontal co-opetition between enterprise and competitors, partners, and other types of partnerships. The research of supply chain co-opetition mainly focused on different supply chains, but the isolation and synergy within chains failed to attract the attention of scholars, thus provides the space for this study. In addition, the existing theories just based on contractual framework, and research perspectives were only limited to explore the contractual co-opetition among enterprises. This article attempts to explore the co-opetition behaviors beyond contract between upstream and downstream enterprises within supply chain from a whole new perspective of distinction advantage, so as to enrich and perfect the co-opetition theories between enterprises.The article adopts the method of single case study, studies "the isolation and synergy beyond contract within the supply chain" from the perspective of distinction advantage, mainly from below two aspects:one is the isolation phenomenon within supply chains based on the premise of cooperation, the other is the synergy phenomenon within supply chains based on the premise of asset specificity. First of all, the author analyzes and organizes the collected enterprise’s materials, summarize the distinction advantages of suppliers, manufacturers and distributors within supply chain. Secondly, analyzing the segregation and synergy phenomenon of Geely supply chain so as to build the generation mechanism and analyze co-opetition effect. Finally, constructing the theory model according to the analysis results, so as to demonstrate the theoretical perspectives and perfect the theoretical framework before. The author attempts to help Chinese enterprises deeply understand their own distinction advantages through this article and take advantage of them to form a strong competitive advantage, and then make the right strategic decision. Also hope to explore the co-opetition mode which is suitable for China’s national conditions and universally applicable through the case study of Chinese enterprises, and provide theoretical guidance and practical reference to Chinese enterprises’upgrade and development.Through the case study, it can be concluded that each node company within Geely supply chain generally has the distinction advantage which is difficult to imitate each other, and these companies’competitive behavior will evolve to cooperation under the effect of isolation mechanism, and their cooperative behavior will generate isolation effect to prevent being replaced. And the fundamental reason of distinction advantage is enterprises’core resources and core competence and the core strategy, which are also the main factors to improve enterprise reputation, future cooperation value and promote specific investment. Geely supply chain’s beyond contract co-opetition behavior can improve its strain effect, greatly promote the collaborative innovation, further improve the whole supply chain’s competitive advantage, which can ensure the supply chain members’long-term interests. Through summarizing the case study, this research draws the following conclusion:(1)The existence of distinction advantage can make the competitive behavior between the upstream and downstream enterprises of supply chain transform into synergy effect, and their cooperative behavior will generate isolation effect to prevent being replaced, which can ensure the balance of the internal supply chain.(2) There is the relationship beyond contract between the enterprises within supply chain, and this kind of relationship is produced in a particular situation. Long-term cooperation relationship is the most fundamental one of them.(3) The isolation and synergy beyond contract can reduce the operating cost of the supply chain, promote the knowledge sharing between member enterprises, produce the effect of strain outside the supply chain, which will ensure their long-term benefits and further consolidate the enterprises’distinction advantage.
