Guan Zi is one of the most important books that focus on the economic issues before Qin Dynasty, which concretrates on a key problem "how to make country and people wealthy and powerful". From this angle, it has some similarities with Adam Smith’s An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. However, the evaluation and effect of the Guan Zi, which formed in two thousand years ago, can’t compare with An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations that is regarded as a epoch-making book. Nowadays, the western scholars’ study on western economics becomes saturation on a certain degree. Consequently, some western scholars start to focus eastern economics, which includes Guan Zi. On the study of Guan Zi, Chinese scholars have great advantage in language and culture. So it’s duty and responsibility for them to give an accurate comment to Guan Zi, which deserves it.I think the wealth theory in this book is complete and logical. The paper regards the wealth theory as the main object of the study, which contains serious perspectives. First, it discusses the background and theoretical source of the theory. In terms of content, it concludes "what is wealth"; "where does wealth come from"; "how to get wealth"; "how to make wealth grow continuously"; and the relationship between wealth and currency. Besides, the paper also compares the wealth theory with western wealth thought. It sorts out the thought in western economics from pre-classical period to now, which makes a dynamic comparative between them. Finally, the paper concentrates on the inheritance and development of the wealth theory, and combines China’s national conditions and current economic development situation today, so it puts forwards some advices.On the base of sorting out the wealth theory in Guan Zi, the paper also makes dynamic comparison between wealth theory in Guan Zi and western wealth thought. Finally, the paper vertically discusses the inherit and development of Guan Zi in China and laterally compares to western wealth thought.Some economic thoughts in Guan Zi are very advanced, even on ahead of western economics several thousand years. However, China didn’t give birth to a complete theoretical system like western economics in modern times. I think it could be called "Needham Puzzle" in history of Chinese economic thoughts. Looking forward to the study direction of history of Chinese economic thoughts in the future, I think the complete and logical Guan Zi deserves more focus.
