Northeast Asia Regional Cooperation And Development And Research Of The Yanbian Tegion

Northeast Asia has always been the intersection area of conflict and benefit in the world pattern. Diversity of politics, economy, system and the problems left over from history as well as contradictions formed in Cold War are main contributors to the slow development progress of Northeast Asia. Yanbian, located in the eastern part of Jilin province and Tri-Border-Area of China, Russia and North Korea, is the nearest China region with countries around the sea of Japan like Russia, North Korea, Japan and South Korea. Therefore, the positon of Yanbian in regional cooperation of Northeast Asia relates not only to economic development progress of Yanbian and Jilin province, but also to safeguard of national security and consolidation of frontier.With Cooperation Plan of Tumen River Area coming up, Yanbian has become the "window" and "front" of the plan, and gets attention and support of neighbor countries in favor of economic development as well as restrictions. Externally, political situation of neighbor countries form new environment of Yanbian’s economic development. For example, the fourth nuclear test of North Korea is not conductive to diplomatic relations and development of Yanbian economy, while China and South Korea FTA brings new opportunities of economic and trade development by upgrading industry, enlarging total volume of import and export, extending trade channel and promoting sustainability of society. Internally, Yanbian enjoys favored policies such as policy of Revitalizing Northeast Old Industrial Base, policy of The Great Western Development, policy of Development and Open of the Bord, etc, which are cornerstone of industrial development and external cooperation. Considering background listed above, Yanbian should give full play to its location, policy, resources, culture and other advantages, overcome constraints from internal and external, seize opportunities, expand cooperation areas to promote the leap-forward development of economy and society.This paper discusses development of Yanbian in the framework of Northeast Asia regional cooperation from historical dimension, focuses on the research of international environment, development strategy and current condition of cooperation, compares strengths vs weaknesses and opportunities vs threats by using SWOT analysis method, analyses internal and external environmental factors affecting development of Yanbian, explores new development model and provides suggestions for economic growth of Yanbian.
