220/110 kV electromagnetic loop networks had been unlocked mostly in domestic at present, 500/220 kV electromagnetic loop networks were in the majority in service, 750/330(220)kV and 1000/500 kV electromagnetic loop networks because of the UHV expansion project construction existed a small amount, electromagnetic loop network operation especially EHV and UHV would result in the loop flows and add the additional active loss.This research systematically summarized the various electromagnetic loop network loop flow control technology and method. FACTS technology could achieve integrated intelligent control for the power grid, VSC-HVDC technology had strong flexibility on the power grid interconnection, new energy and city grid, the two technologies would be in widespread use in the future smart grid.Taking loop flow in the electromagnetic loop network as the research object,aimed to control it through using FACTS and VSC-HVDC technology to improve the system running economy, this research studied the mechanism of electromagnetic loop network loop flow, and presented three loop network general formula, the UPFC and VSC-HVDC power flow control ability, different steady state mathematical model for power flow calculation and their respective advantages and disadvantages systematically, achieved the Newton-Raphson algorithm including the UPFC and VSC-HVDC and 5 nodes test result showed the programs' validation and accuracy.This research improved the PSO algorithm, solving the algorithm disadvantages on the problems of low efficiency of power flow calculation convergence and optimization, proved the Improved Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm(IPSO)'s superiority at four aspects, including the computing accuracy and speed, convergence and solution space, then solved the UPFC and VSC-HVDC optimal control parameters, provided the variation trend of some controlled parameters, verified thefeasibility of two technology UPFC and VSC-HVDC for controlling the electromagnetic loop network loop flow.
