Quantum computer is highly valued by its potential application on concurrent computation and quantum simulation. Many achievements have made on the research of trapped ion quantum computer for the theoretical demonstration of realizing all the processes of quantum computation in 1995. With long coherent time and the ability of scaling, Trapped ion becomes one of the promising candidates for quantum information. This thesis describes the development of macroscopic ion trap and ion chip.For macroscopic ion trap, we have successfully built the system and trapped40Ca+ions. Several methods had been employed to compensate micromotion and the temperature of single ion can be cooled lower than 10 mK by Doppler cooling. We also demonstrated the strong confinement of ion trap by trapping a large number of ions and one order and second order structure phase transition of ions were observed in our system.We proposed a theoretical method for ion cooling, which combines the electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) cooling and a high fineness optical cavity to enhance the cooling of EIT cooling method.For ion chip, we designed our surface ion chip based on the principle of ”five wire”ion trap and confirmed its function by numerical simulation. We have fabricated the ion chip and built the test system, which includes the vacuum part, image part, laser part and so on. Atomic fluorescence have been observed in our system at present.
