Plasma periodic structure is a new and highly attractive periodic structure on the basis of Frequency Selective Surface, which is supported by mature theories. It is an extension and innovation in the field of plasma research and has great application potential in stealth and electromagnetic compatibility.This paper, based on the basic characteristics of the macroscopic plasma and electromagnetic interactions, respectively conduct researches on electromagnetic properties of the band-resistive and band-pass plasma periodic structure, propose and analyze a new band-resistive periodic structure in the unit of plasma column and FSS electromagnetic transmission characteristics of a thin plasma layer for loading media and cavity packaging.First of all, an introduction on macroscopic electromagnetic characteristics of non-magnetized cold plasma is presented, and basic principles of finite difference time domain(FDTD) used in the simulation of the interaction between plasma and electromagnetic waves is illustrated, and meanwhile we summarize the basic methods in CST software simulation for the calculation of periodic structure containing plasma medium. Secondly, we focus resonance characteristics of periodic structure with different plasma parameters in the unit of a plasma column, and on this basis, design and implement a multi-frequency band-blocking structural model in the equivalent circuit methods. Last but not least, under the background of plasma stealth radome research and on the basis of analysis on the band-pass FSS structure consisted of three different basic units, we conduct in-depth research on electromagnetic transmission characteristics of a thin plasma layer for loading media and cavity packaging, giving birth to a summary of the influence of different plasma parameters have on the FSS structure of plasma resonance characteristics.The results show that the band-blocking property of plasma periodic structure can be regulated within a wide range by changing plasma parameters and electromagnetic characteristics of periodic structure determines the direction of plasma application. Further, by controlling plasma parameters, both convenient conversion between band-blocking and band-passing and rapid adjustment of unit structure resonant frequency can be realized. Therefore, the superiority of plasma periodic structure on aspects like band extension, frequency regulation, and controllable on-off is obviously seen.
