As a traditional underwater exploration and reconnaissance equipment, underwater tow body is mainly for the marine environment parameter survey, seabed topography surveying, hydrographic surveys and other activities.Nowadays, underwater towed body survey is still the main way for seabed survey.Cubic towed body does not have conspicuous stable plane, and the cubic shape is static unstable. Therefore, the key for acquiring effective survey data is to keep the towed body in a dynamic stable state during the motor process. In this paper,we study the dynamic characteristics of a typical cubic underwater towed body, which can be used for reference for related research in the future. The results of this paper are as below:1)Hydrodynamic coefficient associated with rotation is the parameters for towed body kinetic stability.Hydrodynamic coefficient associated with rotation was obtained by towed body towing tank simulation test using hydrodynamics software, and Hydrodynamic coefficient associated with angle was obtained by the unsteady pure pitch motion simulation using CFD dynamic mesh technique.2)By analyzing the force of the underwater towed body,we can draw the balance equation of the vertical plane of the towed body, and carry out the simulation analysis.According to the underwater tow body hydrodynamic simulation and stability discriminant studies, cubic shape underwater towed body has good dynamic stability, and also has the certain maneuverability.Compared with the structure of a large area with stable wing,it has the advantages of simple structure and good performance.3)The deepwater towed survey practice has proved that the towed body studied in this paper is in a smooth gesture during the survey process, and the data acquired by towed body is effective, and the practice results are consistent with the theoretical research results.
