This paper briefly lists the ideologies of animal rights in the contemporary west,summarizes the changes in the relationship between people and animals in the contemporary west,and focuses on discussing the core issues of the controversy over animal rights,trying to provide a reference and an enlightenment about how to deal with the relationship between human beings and animals.The introduction part explains the background of the topic,the purpose of the topic,the literature review at home and abroad,the research methods and the difficulties encountered in writing and the innovation of this article.The first chapter mainly shows the early view of the animal in the West.In the history of the West,the point of view is the view of human dominating animals,ideologically it is as anthropocentrism.First,the introduction the thought of traditional anthropocentrism,which sprouts in the ancient "Bible";Secondly,introduces the four forms of anthropocentrism and its main ideas and their influence on future generations;Thirdly,summarizes that there are three stages and two turns in the relationship between people and animals.Finally,introduces a key period of change in the relationship between man and animal,and the economy,science and technology and culture have been greatly developed and changed and influenced by people's values during this period,thus contributing to the division of human and animal relations.There are two aspects in the second chapter.First,introduces the germination and development of non-anthropocentrism.Non-anthropocentrism was sprouted in the utilitarian founder Bentham,and developed after the statements in Darwin's "biological evolution",followed by the rise of a series of thoughts of protecting the animal.Secondly,introduces the concept of animal rights and its formation background.The third chapter is including about discussing the representative of the theory of animal liberation – the main thought of Peter Singh,its source and its influence,and then,introduces the follow-up scholars to his discussion and supplement.The fourth chapter focuses on the representative of the strong theory of animal rights – the main thought of Tom Reagan,its source and its influence,and then,introduces the follow-up scholars to his discussion and supplement.The fifth chapter introduces the representative of the full opponent of animal rights,the main argument of Karl Cohen,his objections to animal liberation and animal rights,and his main dispute with Tom Reagan.In the end,compares and summarizes the views of the main animal rightist.Through the study of animal rights theory in the contemporary west,the author tries to propose a superficial view of constructing the harmonious relationship between human and animal.
