Behavior of major elements?trance elements and rare earth elements of weathering is widely researched.by many geologists.By researth the elements of different sizes and different depths of quartz porphyry weathering samples which come from southwest end of the Xiong-Er-Shan terrain,we can get some cognition as follows:1.In the process of quartz porphyry weathering,20?60 size samples can inherit the original rock characteristics and keep weathering features.The samples from the certain depth of the weathering pile show the same phenomena.2.Rare earth elements in the weathering process shows that the total amount increased and there is differentiation between light rare earth elements and heavy rare earth elements.3.Al is immobile during the whole weathering.4.Some major elements were gain during the weathering such as K2O?MnO?TiO2 and P2O5,but SiO2?MgO?CaO and Na2O was lost.The HFSE of Ta?Zr?Hf?Sc and Y was gain but behavior of Nb?Th and U was uncertain.Some Hydrothermal ore-forming elements like Sn?Mo?Cu?Zn?As?Hg were gain,W?Bi?Sb and Au was gain and then was lost during weathering.Pb?Cr and Ag was uncertain.For the other elements,V?Cr?Co?Ni?Li?Ba and F was gain,Sr and Be has the same behavior as Au,but the behavior of B was opposite,the behavior of Rb was complicated.Through the above conclusions we can get the behavior of the elements of the Quartz porphyry during weathering.For convenient investigation,we can use a certain size of soil samples instead of certain depth of weathering samples,because of the similarity between them.
