Liuxihe reservoir is a canyon one with distinct aquatic zoning, and it is located at the Tropic of Cancer in a monsoonal region and has a clear environment heterogeneity between three aquatic zones: lacustrine, transition and riverine zones. The reservoir is a typical ecosystem for comparison of species composition and seasonality of rotifer communities between three zones. We conducted monthly monitoring at five sampling sites in riverine zone, transition zone and lacustrine zone mainly from January of 2010 to December of 2016.We applied PCA,n MDS,RDA and variation partitioning to analyze the tempo-spatial variation, the community structure and environmental responding mode. Our data and results will be useful for the reservoir ecological monitoring and protecting designs. The main results and conclusions were summarized as follows:1.In total,117 species and 1 subspecies in 28 genera had been identified,Lecane, among which Trichocerca and Brachionus have high species diversity and the dominant species were equipped with lorica and small body size.2.Species richness,Simpson diversity index, the averaged abundance and beta diversity had a general gradient decreasing from upstream to downstream of the reservoir, demonstrating significant response of rotifer communities to environment heterogeneity between aquatic zones.3.Seasonal variation was examined with the dynamics of dominant species and community structure, and the community structure of rotifers was more similar in wet seasons than in dry seasons.4.The variation of rotifer community was influenced by physical variables, chemical variables and biological variables, however, the physical variables were the major factors(interpretation variation)explaining both temporal and spatial variations of rotifer community.Among the explaining variables, temperature and Secchi disk depth were the physical variables that had stronger effects on rotifer community in three aquatic zones.
