The finite element analysis method(FEA)has a wide range of applications in the area of engineering technology.As one of the key steps,mesh generation plays a pivotal role in FEA.Among them,quad mesh is more prominent than triangular mesh in terms of computational precision and convergence.And more and more attention has been paid in recent years.At first,this paper introduces the various algorithms for quadrilateral mesh generation.And then an algorithm both for the extraction of discrete medial axis and decomposition for arbitrary domain in 2D space has been given.After given the CDT mesh of the region,this algorithm can complete the discrete axis extraction and sub-domain split in liner time.The result of the algorithm contains only quadrilateral and triangular sub-domains,and the quadrilateral sub-domain is dominant.It is worth mentioning that this algorithm not only can be combined with the mapping method for complex two-dimensional region quadrilateral mesh generation,and can be used for street partition layout,geometric features simplification and adjacent feature recognition and other fields.Then this paper makes an in-depth study of Owen's Q-Morph algorithm and makes some improvements.Introduced the concept of active and unactive front to simplify the management of the front and increased the control of the side length in the side selection step to avoid the generation of the narrow element.At the same time,some details of the algorithm such as front edge selection,seaming operation,etc also be given.It is shown that the improved Q-Morph algorithm can be used to generate 2D planar and 3D surface quadrilateral mesh.Some example also has been given.The optimization of quadrilateral mesh is also studied,and some commonly used smoothing and topology optimization algorithms are implemented and applied to quad mesh generation.Finally,this paper developed a web-based finite element pre-processing tool WebMesher.And has completed CAD model import,mesh generation and model partial shadow,the cloud drawing and some auxiliary function,and has the preliminary certain practicability.Related work as a research and exploration for the development of web-based applications,preliminary validates the feasibility for the mechanical industry-related software development from the desktop to the web side.Relevant research has high engineering value.
