The Hydrocarbon Potential In UAE

UAE is rich in oil and natural gas,systematic analysis of petroleum system and resourse assessment is of great significance for the further exploration.This paper is based on the systematic field data and comprehensive method of petroleum system and play analysis,it characterized petroleum systems and plays in UAE,analyzed the distribution law and main control factors and evaluated the hydrocarbon resourse potential,and it optimized the favorable exploration zones.By statistical analysis of 91 oil and gas fields and 305 accumulations in UAE and detailed research of hydrocarbon accumulation conditions,this paper classified oil and gas of the same original,established genetic relationship between effective source rocks and oil and gas based on the oil source or gas source correlation,then divided UAE into petroleum systems and divided the accumulations with the same trap type or reseivoir type into the same play.Middle and west of UAE is rich in oil overall,east UAE is rich in gas overall,and deeper reservoir is rich in oil and shallow reservoir is rich in gas,sea is rich in oil and land is rich in gas in the west UAE.Source rocks and salt is the main control factors,the accumulations are near the source rocks.UAE is divided into five petroleum systems,16 proven plays and two conceptual plays,the paper used scale sequence method and geological model and statistical model method to assess the undiscovered recoverable resource volume of these plays and petroleum systems,the results showed that the undiscovered recoverable resource volumes of oil,gas and condensate in UAE were 3841.48 MMbbl,19.07 Tcf and 784.63 MMbbl,and the oil equivalent is 7804.75 MMboe.Based on the comprehensive analysis of accumulation conditions and the results of the assessment,the author optimized eight favorable exploration zones in UAE.This study will make sense for the future exploration in the UAE.
