In this study, samples of herbaceous plants and soil profiles were collected from northwestern section of northern slope of the Mt.motianling from March to September in 2013 and 2014.The samples were collected by means of statistical test and correlation analysis. This paper studied the stoichiometric characteristics, the correlation between the stoichiometric characteristics of herbaceous plants and biomass and soil nutrients, etc. The chemometrics characteristics of herbaceous plants at 1700m-2700 m elevation on the northern slope of Mt.motianling were revealed, and the nutritional limiting factors during the growth of herbaceous communities were studied. The main conclusions were as follows:(1)The biomass of herbaceous plants in the northwestern section of northern slope of the Mt.motianling decreased with the elevation gradient, but the aboveground and underground biomass were not significantly correlated with species richness, whilst positively correlated with herbaceous coverage.Relatively, the effect of underground biomass was more significant. The effects of coverage and total nitrogen on aboveground biomass were inhibited weakly, while the effects of coverage and organic carbon on underground biomass were promoted.(2)The uptake and utilization efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus elements in the upper part of northwestern section of northern slope of the Mt.motianling was high, but the correlation between nitrogen and phosphorus elements wass not significant; The carbon and nitrogen ratio decreased with the elevation of the elevation, indicating that the plant increased the growth rate to adapt to the high altitude environment;the ratio of carbon, phosphorus and nitrogen to phosphorus increased with the elevation, which was limited by the phosphorus element;the nitrogen and phosphorus ratio of the herbaceous plants was less than 14,indicating that the growth of herbaceous plants in this study area was mainly restricted by nitrogen elements.(3)The aboveground parts of herbaceous plants were significantly correlated with soil carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus contents and their stoichiometry. There was no significant correlation between the indexes of aboveground parts and soil organic carbon and C / N,and most indicators were significantly or significantly positively correlated with total phosphorus content in soil.
