Twin-roll thin strip casting is a process in which molten steel vary from liquid to solidity in 30s. Because of large temperature gradient, complex temperature distribution and small space, it's difficult to acquire the temperature distribution of the molten pool on line. So in this thesis, the finite element method has been used to study on temperature field in twin-roll casting process.(1) Heat transfer characteristics of the molten pool were analyzed by use of heat transfer theory and the boundary of the molten pool conditions was confirmed. In addition, methods for dealing with latent heat of solidification and the heat transfer coefficient between the pool and the casting roller were raised.(2) Based on the geometry of the molten pool and flow characteristics, grid-based method was used to mesh the molten pool. The quality of grid directly impacts on the accuracy and efficiency of numerical analysis. In this dissertation, collapsing and smooth technology was proposed, which greatly improved the quality of elements from negative number to 0.2.(3) According to the finite element method and weighted residual method, the 3D transient heat transfer models of conduction temperature field for the molten pool, and the finite element solution equations were derived. Moreover, an optimizing method for composition of matrix was put forward.(4) MATLAB language used, a simulation software of 3D finite element method for calculating the temperature field was developed. The simulation results by the method of thesis were valid in comparing with the results of ANSYS software and the error was within 4.91%, which met the design requirements. Theoretical basis for intensive research was provided.
