8-Hydroxyquinoline is a very imporant ionophore and has a strong metal chelating ability. The amide type open-chain ligands have been used for the detection, separation and extraction of metal ions. In additon, they have wide applications in electronic chemisty, biochemisty, medicine and function material. This is largely due to their excellent coordination ability and high selectivity to metal ions, simple synthesis, low cost and toxicity. This paper is focused on the luminescence properties of such series of ligands and their metal complexes. Thus, the structures and luminescence properties of some metal complexes with(quinolin-8-yloxy) acetamide ligands were investigated. The dissertation includes following three chapters:1. It was given a brief review of the research progress of quinoline derives and their metal complexes on different fields.2. Seven(quinolin-8-yloxy) acetamide ligands derived from 8-hydroxyquinoline were synthesized via nucleophilic substitution reaction and characterized by NMR, MS and IR spectra. The crystal structures of four ligands hydrate and nine transition metal complexes were confirmed by X-ray diffraction. In addition, solution luminescent properties of the complexes with Zn2+ and Cd2+ nitrates were investigated at room temperature. The result shows that the complexes exhibit stronger emission band than corresponding free ligands. This is probably due to the energy transferring from the ligands to the metal ions. The behavior of metal ion coordinated to the ligand is in general as that of emissive species leading to a CHEF effect(chelation enhancement of the fluorescence emission).3. Thirteen lanthanide complexes of(quinolin-8-yloxy) acetamide ligands were synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction. In addition, solution luminescent properties of the complexes were investigated at room temperature.Seven ligands were involved in this paper:N-phenyl-2-(quinolin-8-yloxy)acetamide(L1)N-benzyl-2-(quinolin-8-yloxy)acetamide(L2)N-(naphthalen-1-yl)-2-(quinolin-8-yloxy)acetamide(L3)N-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-(quinolin-8-yloxy)acetamide(L4) N-methyl-N-phenyl-2-(quinolin-8-yloxy)acetamide(L5) N,N-diphenyl-2-(quinolin-8-yloxy)acetamide(L6) N-phenyl-2-(5-chloro-quinolin-8-yloxy)acetamide(L7)...
