With the rapid development of aviation industry, medical apparatus and instruments, auto industry, military weapons and communications industry, the corresponding equipment and products are moving in the direction of miniaturization, and that makes the application of micro machining technology becoming more and more widespread, and at the same time, the requirements of products such as function, shape, and reliability are gradually improve increased. Micro scale processing has such characters as high flexibility, high precision, high efficiency, and it can be used to process parts with small scale feature, and can be made with complex three dimensional shape or tiny parts of complex curved surface, is the main method of processing miniature products. Though lots of researches on micro processing technology especially micro cutting technology had been made by many scholars at home and abroad, there are some questions stay to be answered. The effect of the presence of critical chip thickness, elastic recovery, ploughing in micro scale machining are still worth to study.Micro scale milling technology is one of the most important in micro machining technology and it has a high material removal rate and high flexibility, but surface quality is not ideal. The micro scale grinding processing can get a high machining accuracy and better surface, but its processing efficiency is low. Then we put forward to a new processing technic which can get a high material removal rate and good surface in the meantime, and we call it micro scale milling-grinding. The following aspects about the processing of micro scale milling-grinding are studied in this paper.(1) Analysis the processing mechanism of material removal of the micro scale milling-grinding, and establish the mathematical prediction model of minimum chip thickness, height of elastic recovery in the machining process. Analysis the instaneous cutting thickness and the phenomenon of chip discontinuous.(2) To do simulation research of the process of micro-scale milling-grinding and analysis the formation process of chip and temperature in the process by using ABAQUS.(3) Study the preparation technology of micro scale milling-grinding tools, and make some improvement according to the experiment, and then observe and analysis the tools under micro scale.(4) Do side milling-grinding experiment by using aluminium alloy 6061, brass H62,20 steel, and analysis the influences of various processing factors on surface roughness; Make side and slot milling-grinding and milling experiment of aluminium alloy 6061. Plot the change rules of surface roughness along with machining parameter. Analysis the difference between side and slot processing, make comparison of micro milling-grinding and micro milling.(5) Summarize the conclusions and the lacks of the subject research, and propose some suggestions for future work.
