Laser hardening technology is an advanced manufacturing and remanufacturing technique nowadays,which is widely used in surface hardening, modification and repair and so on of materials and parts now. To better understand the process of laser hardening heat effect, heat transfer methods and processes as well as its unique technological features, study laser hardening transient temperature field and stress field in this paper. Because the laser hardening process can be affected by many parameters, and having rapid heating and rapid cooling characteristics, so it is quite difficult to directly measure the instantaneous temperature and thermal stress distribution by testing. In this article, I use the widely applied finite element analysis software ANSYS, in case of numerical analyse and simulate the temperature field and thermal stress field of the laser steel 45 quenching process. The main details are as follows: (1) Studied the related principle and mechanism of laser hardening, as well as numerical simulation terms of content; such as latent heat, thermal parameters, laser energy conversion factor, modeling the heat source and meshing.(2) According to the feature of the laser hardening process, creating a three-dimensional solid model and meshing it in ANSYS. Solving after loading, obtain the three-dimensional transient temperature field of laser quenching process, we can observe the feature how temperature field is changed in the specimen throughout the whole laser quenching process, can research laser hardening technology process more intuitive.We can also observe the distribution situation of temperature field at a given time, use the sectional command could observe the temperature distribution on the cross-section along the laser scanning direction and perpendicular to the direction of laser scanning of the specimen.(3) On the basis of the analysis of the temperature field, calculate the basic size of the hardened layer produced by laser hardening under the text parameter conditions. Summarize the distribution law of the hardened layer produced by laser hardening process. Study the effects of different laser power on the size of the hardened layer. And proposed some possible ways to optimize the uniformity of the hardened layer, for example: a rectangle with curved edges laser spot with uniform power density, segmented speed changing scanning method, the power density of laser was a combination of "saddle" or optimize the P-v distribution of laser hardening process.(4) Based on the obtained temperature field of laser hardening process, do heat-structure coupling analysis and calculation using the indirect method, loaded the calculated temperature field as load on three-dimensional solid model, define the border factors, and finally obtain the thermal stress field distribution of laser hardening process.Thermal stress is mainly concentrated in the effect area around the laser spot, the farther away from the spot active region, the less stress produce; laser induced compressive stress zones, with the self-cooling effect of the test piece, the compressive stress decreases, and even become pulling stress.
