The single-phase-to-earth fault has not been resolved in ungrounded system, so far many scholars have proposed many line detection methods and some equipments developed from them, but for the coal industry which the network are polluted seriously, it is difficult to find a satisfied equipment to find the faulted line precisely.According to the difficult problem of line selection in the coal power network, the paper analyzes the fault steady characteristics for single-phase-to-earth fault in ungrounded system, presents a new criterion for earth fault line selection based on differential protection. Make artificial neutral point compensation to each branch and according to its different effects on the zero sequence current between the fault line and the health line, it can detect the fault line. The system applied the MSP430F169 as the main controller to finish the design of leakage protection equipment based on the differential faulty line detection. At last, we verified the performance of device under the condition of resistive, capacitive and owed inductive compensation. The result proved the differential selection criterion can correctly select the fault line, and the device had the good performance.
