With the rapid development of economy, the processing precision of parts of industrial products is becoming higher and higher. WEDM is widely used because of high accuracy and is not affected by the material hardness; it is used more and more widely. The manufacturing and using cost of the High-speed EDM is low, and the processing efficiency is high, because of the vibration is large. So how to monitor the machining process of the machine and improve the processing quality of the workpiece is an urgent task.In the medium, as for electric spark wire cutting, the study of discharge point is a method to study the mechanism; it is also a part of the research on the stability of WEDM processing and the surface quality of the machined parts. Through theoretical analysis and building potential difference method, the detection system can detect the discharge point location. Use LABVIEW software to realize the real-time online monitoring of the distribution of the discharge point location. According to the discharge point distribution the WEDM process stability can be improved. This paper mainly conducts the following research about discharge point location of the WEDM: Firstly, by comparing various detection methods, the potential difference method is selected as the detection method of discharge point location; Secondly, the rationality of the potential difference method is verified by theoretical analysis, and the optimal calibration function is selected, and the position detection system of discharge point location is set up according to the theoretical analysis; Thirdly, establish reasonable evaluation methods of the discharge point location distribution; Finally, the position of voltage signal and then discharge point position calibration function is determined through contrast experiment. The evaluation system is used to evaluate the distribution of discharge points in different media, and the effect of feed rate and offset of the working table on the discharge point distribution is also studied.The research of this subject has great significance to optimize the processing parameters, improve the processing efficiency and reliability, so that the performance of the WEDM can fully play, and the development of high-speed EDM processing technology can be promoted.
