With the gradually increase of automobile production and sales, the development of mould manufacturing industry has attracted more and more attention. Hard milling process is widely used in auto mould manufacturing field because its domain advantages of high processing efficiency and good machining quality. In mould milling process, if the processing parameter selection is not reasonable, it will leads problems such as low mould profile precision, unideal surface fatigue life. This research focuses on the steel Cr12 Mo V convex surface hard milling process, with the aid of experimental study and theoretical analysis, study on surface quality index(surface roughness, surface morphology, residual stress and surface hardness), got the relatively optimized cutting conditions for surface quality.Start from ball-end milling cutter & workpiece surface contact properties of convex surface milling process, got effective cutting radius under different cutting tool position angle. Through the orthogonal test, the impact of milling parameters(spindle rotation, feed per tooth, cutting depth and cutting width) on the average milling force is obtained. The experimental results provide mechanics characteristic base for surface quality.According to different cutter and workpiece contact characteristics under different location, on the basis of the change rule of chip thickness changing with tool path, research on dynamic characteristics of curved surface milling process using full-discrete method, got the cutting tool and workpiece contact characteristics under different tool position, the milling stability domain simulation results is obtained too. And the accuracy of the results are verified by experiment.Setting spindle speed, feed per tooth, cutting depth and cutting width as the research variables, through the four factors and four levels orthogonal experiment, analyzed the influence laws of milling parameters on surface quality(surface roughness, surface morphology, residual stress and surface hardness). Got the level effect and variance analysis results of each index, then got the effecting degree of order. The results of this study provide a theoretical basis and practical reference for surface quality control in actual machining process.
