The microbubble technology was applied for ozonation wastewater treatment in the present study.The characteristics of ozone mass transfer in microbubble ozonation were investigated.Then the microbubble ozonation was used to treat synthetic acid red 3R wastewater.The characteristics of microbubble ozonation treating acid red 3R wastewater were also investigated and the reaction conditions were optimized,compared to conventional bubble ozonation treatment.The results confirmed the enhanced ozone mass transfer using microbubble ozonation.The ozone mass transfer coefficient in microbubble ozonation was 3.6 times higher than that in conventional bubble ozonation under the same conditions.Simultaneously,the ozone decomposition coefficient in microbubble ozonation was 6.2 times higher than that in conventional bubble ozonation.The pH showed obvious influence on ozone mass transfer in microbubble ozonation and the ozone decomposition was fastest under alkaline condition.The activated carbon showed inhibition effect on ozone mass transfer.The reaction rate and mineralization efficiency of acid red 3R could be improved significantly in microbubble ozonation.The TOC removal efficiency of 78.0% was achieved in microbubble ozonation,which was about 2 times higher than that in conventional bubble ozonation.The ozone utilization efficiency in microbubble ozonation was much higher than that in conventional bubble ozonation.The average ozone utilization efficiencies were 97.8% and 69.3% when microbubble and conventional bubble were used in ozonation treatment of acid red 3R,respectively.When activated carbon was used as catalyst,the mineralization of acid red 3R was improved obviously in microbubble ozonation.When coal activated carbon was used,the TOC removal efficiency increased to 90%,which was better than wooden activated carbon and coconut husk active carbon.The pH showed significant effect on the performance of microbubbles ozonation treatment of acid red 3R,and TOC removal was most efficient under acidic condition.Furthermore,higher ozone dose and lower initial acid red 3R concentration would be better for more efficient performance.
