A layer of iron oxide scale will be formed on the surface of high carbon steel wire rod during the process of cooling after rolling. The oxide scale plays an improtant role in protecting the steel surface during transportion. However,it must be peeled in the subsequent processing. In recent years, due to the advocation of the energy conservation, the improvement of peeling properties of oxide scale is far more important. It is critical to ascertain the factors that affect the stripping properties of the oxide scale and to study the influence of these factors on the peeled properties of the oxide scale become critical. There are many factors affecting the stripping properties of high carbon steel wire rod, especially the thickness and structure of the oxide scale, which are significantly affected by the cooling technology.Isothermal oxidation test, continuous cooling oxidation test and iron oxide scale peeling test were conducted to study generation laws and the stripping properties of the oxide scale of high carbon steel wire rod during cooling after rolling. Also, the thickness model, structural model and peel performance model of the oxide scale in a high carbon steel wire rod were established. The generation process of iron oxide under different conditions and the final stripping properties were simulated based on the equipment and technology conditions in the industrial scenario. In addition, the cooling process corresponding to the best peeling performance of the oxide scale was obtained under the condition of meeting the requirement of the properties of steels.
