As a special kind of hydraulic structures, the number of tailings dam is increasing rapidly with the huge demand of mineral resources. However, due to the influence of some human beings or natural force, the stockpiling of tailings in outburst, on the downstream people's life and property has tremendous potential danger.(it is possible to happen tailing dam break which is a potential threat to people's life and property on the downstream).Therefore, study on the evolution and regularity of the sand flow in the tailings dam break is very important, and has important engineering significance to the prediction of dam break disaster influence scope and safety management of tailings dam. In view of this, this paper systematically studies the evolution and regularity of the sand flow in the tailings dam break. The main contents and conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)This thesis summarizes the domestic and foreign research status of tailings dam and evolution of main channel sand flow movement,and summarizes the mechanism of the tailings dam dam break and its causes are analyzed.( 2) Based on the finite element method, the evolution of sand flow in tailings dam is simulated by using fluid dynamics software(FLUENT). That come to conclusion of dam breach mud sand flow in valleys downstream of mud depth evolution, pressure, flow rate.(3)Using texts about the evolution of tailings dam sand flow motion simulation test apparatusstuding on the sand flow concentration,collapse gate and downstream slope influence on the evolution of tailings dam sand flow movement,exploring the dam sand flow in sand flow concentration, collapse gate,downstream slope mud flow characteristics and scope of influence.Comparing the results of laboratory tests with the results of numerical simulation,and the two kinds of results are in good agreement.
