In this paper, eight kinds of metal complexes containing nitrogen ligands were synthesized. The composition and structure of the complexes were characterized by element analyses, X-ray powder diffraction or X-ray single crystal diffraction analyses, infrared spectra and thermal analysis. At the same time, the interaction of the complexes with herring sperm DNA was studied by means of spectral methods, viscosity method and so on.(1) Three kinds of complexes [Zn(bi)2](NO3)·2H2O, [Zn(bi)2](Ac)2·1.5H2 O and [Zn(bi)2]SO4·0.25H2 O were synthesized with biuret(bi) and zinc nitrate or zinc acetate and zinc sulfate as raw materials. By using spectral methods, the results show that the interaction between the complex es and DNA is endothermic reaction, and t he interaction is electrostatic and partial intercalative binding.(2) Three kinds of complexes [Ni2(H4EDTMP)(H2O)4], [Ni2(H4EDTMP)(H2O)2.5] and [Ni2(H4EDTMP)(H2O)3] were synthesized with ethylenediamine tetramethylene phosphonic acid(H8EDTMP) and nickel chloride or nickel carbonate and nickel acetate as raw materials. By using spectral methods, the results show that the interaction between the complex es and DNA is endothermic reaction, and it may be spontaneous. The bonding mode between the complex and DNA is evidenced to be partial intercalative binding.(3) Two single crystals of complexes [Cu(bpy)(H2O)2(SO4)]n and [Cu(2,6-pdc)(H2O)2](pdc = pyridine dicarboxylic acid) were synthesized with 2,2?-bipyridine(bpy) or 2,6-pyridine dicarboxylic acid(pdc) and copper sulphate as raw materials. By using spectral methods, the bonding mode between the complex [Cu(bpy)(H2O)2(SO4)]n and DNA is evidenced to be electrostatic and partial intercalative binding, and the binding of the complex to DNA is driven by entropy. The interaction of the complex [Cu(2,6-pdc)(H2O)2] and DNA is similar to that of the complex [Cu(bpy)(H2O)2(SO4)]n, and it is partial intercalative binding.
