Twin screw extruder is one of the main equipment of polymer processing. It is used as a modified equipment to carry out the polymerization of monomer and the chemical reaction of the existing polymer. Most of the reactions are exothermic, so the extruder should have a good capability of heat transferring. Nowadays, the common tube heat exchange device is a drilling-cool type, the biggest drawback is that the heat transfer performance is not uniform which affects the quality of the polymer. The purpose of this paper is to study a kind of efficient heat transfer device with uniform temperature field.Heat pipe is a common heat exchanger owning characteristics of efficient, reliable and simple structure. Therefore, this paper proposes a new heat exchanger, the thermosyphon used in extruder cooling. A heat pipe machine of jacket type is designed, and the operating temperature ranges from 180? to 260 ?. According to the structure of the tube, a simplified model was established, and the numerical simulation was solved by FLUENT software. The heat transfer and flow inside the heat pipe were studied, and the feasibility of the cooling design of the machine was demonstrated. Finally, it is concluded that the temperature distribution on the inner wall of the extruder is very uniform, and the temperature of the cylinder wall is also within the scope of the requirements.The barrel of heat pipe is manufactured and processed after simulation results verifying the feasibility of the tube, and then experiments are carried out and compared with the traditional boring machine. Experimental results show that thermal homogeneity of the heat pipe type barrel is better than the traditional drilling machine barrel.Comparing.In the end, the working parameters of the tube are studied, and the experiment was carried out under different liquid filling ratio, cooling water flow rate and heating power. Finally, according to the experimental results, the best cooling scheme is that the heating power is 11kW, the filling rate is 0.35, and the cooling water flow rate is 180L/h, under the condition, the heat transfer efficiency is 89.5%.
