In recent years, environmental pollution and shortage of non-renewable resource has beenbecoming significant problems with the advancement of industry. Therefore, biodegradablepolymers—poly(butylenesuccinate)(PBS)has become a research emphasis. However, the application of PBSis limited to certain fields, due to the brittleness and the high cost. So,this paper used the microcrystallinecellulose(MCC)reinforced the PBS and studied on the preparation, structure and properties of PBS/MCC composites. The following research was carried out in detail.Firstly,PBS/MCC composites were prepared by melt blending and the interface of the composites weremodified through the way of adding modifiers. The influence of MCC content and modifier types on the mechanical tensile properties, thermal properties and morphology ofcomposites were studied. Then the influence oftemperature,MCC contentand modifier types on the steady-state and dynamic rheological behavior of the composites were studied by advanced capillary rheometer and rotationnal rheometer. Finally, according to the rheological measurements, the mathematical modelswhich could correctly describe the rheological behavior of PBS/MCC composites wereestablished. The results show that: with the increase of the amount of unmodified MCC,the tensile strength, elongation at breakand crystallization temperature of the compositeshad a slightly decline. The interfacial compatibility, tensile strength, elongation at break, melt temperature and crystallization temperatureof the composites were improvedwith added KH550 and MAPBS.The crystalline property of the composites was improved due to the effect of nucleating agent of MAH.The PBS/MCC composites istypical pseudoplastic fluid. The shear viscosity ?aof the composites decreasedand the shear stress ? of the composites increased with the increase of shear rate. When more MCC added or the temperature declined, the shear viscosity ?a and the shear stress? of the PBS/MCC composites system increased. The shear viscosity ?a and the shear stress ? of the composites had a significant decline after adding compatibilizer MAH at different temperatures. The modifier MAPBS and silane coupling agent KH550 could make the liquidity of the composites better only after they reached the appropriate temperature. The storage modulus G? and the complex viscosity |?~*|of the composites system increased, the “payne” effect and “second platea”became more and more apparent with the increase of the amount of MCC.The loss factor(tan(delta))had a significant decline when the amount of MCC reached 30wt%at low ?.The G? and |?~*| of the composites increased slight, the tan? had no obvious changeand the “second platea” appeared at low ? afteradding KH550 and MAPBS.The G? and |?~*| of the composites declined sharply, the tan?improved significantly and tan?-? curve emerged a loss peak at high ?afteradding MAH.Meanwhile the “second platea” appeared. With the increase of the temperature, the G? of the composites declined. This phenomenon was remarkable when the temperaturewas between 120 oC and 140 oC.The predicted values of the modelsshow good coincidence with the experimental dates, which indicated that the rheological models havea good accuracy.
