Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) which can be regarded as the nanographene segment have regained much more attention since the first isolation of graphene by Geim and Novoselov in 2004. Searching for new types of efficient organic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with superior optical and electrical properties is highly required. In this paper, a novel series of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons have been designed and synthesized to explore the relationship between molecular structures and photoelectric properties. Details are as follows:(1) A new class of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) based on naphthalenes-attached and fused truxene were successfully designed and synthesized. Oxidative cyclodehydrogenation was carried out after the microwave-assisted six-fold Suzuki coupling reaction. Stepwise ring-closing oxidized samples with different ?-conjugation extent can be obtained and separated effectively. These PAHs with good solubility and thermal stability had different self-assembly behaviors via solution processing. Step ring closed process reduced the band gap effectively, and the electrical properties of them were also improved. The impact of the ring fused structure on the molecular properties is studied.(2) A new class of nitrogen doping polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons based on naphthalenes-attached and fused triazatruxene were successfully designed and synthesized. Oxidative cyclodehydrogenation was carried out after the microwave-assisted six-fold Suzuki coupling reaction. Stepwise ring-closing oxidized samples with different ?-conjugation extent can be obtained and separated effectively. These PAHs have good solubility and thermal stability. Step ring closed process effectively reduced the band gap, and the electrical properties of them were also improved. The impact of the ring fused structure on the molecular properties is studied.(3) A series of polymers based on a novel planar hetero atom-doped pyrene structure were designed and synthesized. They have good thermal stability. The absorption spectra of these copolymers were adjusted from 500 nm to 750 nm by adjusting different comonomers, indicating their potential as active materials inorganic solar cells.
