Composite material has many advantages, such as little proportion, high specific strength and high specific modulus, which are superior to the traditional metal materials, so it is widely used in the fields of aerospace, ship, weapon, vehicle and wind power. Composite materials are composed of two different material properties of fiber and matrix, which show that the internal structure has many characteristics, such as multi- scale and high heterogeneity, which has a high correlation with the mechanical properties and structure. Therefore, the mechanical properties of the composites need to combine macroscopic and mesoscopic research. This paper aims to study the elastic properties of fiber reinforced composite materials and the failure strength of composite laminates, which provide a theoretical basis for the application of composite materials in engineering practice.Firstly, from the mesoscopic scale of fiber reinforced composite materials, we can extract the representative volume element of the macro and meso scale, according to the representative volume element to divide characterization of meso characteristics information of the repeated unit. Using the basic theory of the single cell model and improving the method of solving process, the solving process is improved to compile the calculation program, The mechanical properties of the composites were calculated by using the two development function of the related software and compared with the result of the finite element software, verifie the correctness of the method.Secondly, the element selection of composite laminate structure in ANSYS software analysis, the method of laying layer angle and the method of building structure model are introduced. Combined with the classical laminate theory, the stress and strain of the fiber reinforced composite laminates are analyzed, and the influence of the different layers on the mechanical properties of the laminates is studied.Finally, according to the failure criterion of composite materials, the damage and crack propagation of composite laminates are studied under the tensile loading. By combining micro cell model, the ANSYS\LS-DYNA modeling method is established, study on the change of the failure strength of the material caused by the loading strain rate. The test machine was used to load the material damage, and the damage strength of the material was measured and the crack growth was observed, verify the correctness of the analysis method.
