In this paper, the project for the reconstruction of the existing production process of citric acid were studied in order to reduce energy consumption. The project meets the requirement of the national industrial policy, local government development planning and the market economy,in line with the company's development needs. It could bring good social and economic benefits. The transformation of the project in the existing citric acid production line, make full use of existing production facilities,to speed up the construction progress and save investment. The project is mainly on the production process of citric acid in the fermentation process and extraction process equipment and technology upgrading,to achieve the purpose of energy saving. The fermentation process eliminated high energy consumption of motor and compressor equipments 146,and newly increased energy-saving motor and axial blower compression and other equipment 90.After the accomplish of the transformation,20,261.6 tons of steam,124,000 cubic meters of water and 69,524,000 KWh electricity could be saved every year. The extraction process of elimination of horizontal belt filter, hydraulic ejector, double suction pump and other equipment 36,renovation of horizontal rubber belt filter, vacuum pump,96 sets of equipment. After finishing the transformation,it could save 48049.8 tons of steam every year. The original staff could meet the demand of the energy saving project, and did not require additional staff. The total investment of 62.68 million?,of which basic equipment cost 0.29 million?,49.915 million?of equipment purchase cost, installation costs 4.955000 million?,2.88 million?for other expenses,4.64 million?as reserve. The construction of the project funds was raised by the construction unit.
