With the development of technology and people's living standards,food packaging industry is rising in china.Styrene acrylic latex,as the main adhesive of cardboard production,because of its excellent performance,simple technics,moderate cost,used extensively in cardboard production industry.In recent years,due to the improvement of environmental awareness and food safety requirements more and more strictly,the traditional styrene acrylic latex is restricted in the industry of food packaging,because of its incomplete reaction in the process of production,the chemical residues like styrene,butyl acrylate and styrene,the VOC too higher.So the styrene acrylic latex of lower VOC is more and more get the favour of the market.The study of styrene acrylic latex of the lower VOC is becoming high value and social significance in papermaking market.In this paper,the low VOC preparation method of styrene acrylic latex is being reviewed,the influence of producing temperature,dosage of initiator,emulsifier dosage,monomer ratio and stirring speed in the process of the synthesis reaction is detailed discussed.Through improvement of the current styrene acrylic latex formula in laboratory,the product has higher conversion rate,less monomer residue,little sparkling.Optimization process is: first of all,by choosing a new type of emulsifier and efficient defoamer,reduce the bubbles of the product.Add the oxidation-reduction type at the end of the polymerization initiator to further promote residual monomer reaction,reducing the VOC from 2000 PPM to 800 PPM,to alleviate the pressure of the subsequent degassing.To reform the existing production equipment,optimizing the production process,using the kettle vacuum degassing treatment on products to further decrease the VOC lower than 15 PPM.Using this method to produce a product total VOC below 15 ppm,product indicators and performance is better than that of BASF and other international products.This product has a good application performance,the paper strength,gloss,smoothness,ink absorbency index after the paper coated has obvious advantages.It has non-toxic harmless and satisfies the requirement of food grade.
