With the diminishing of fossil fuel resources, people have to turn attention to the development of biomass resource. Vegetable oil is a kind of biomass resource with abundant production and low price, Vegetable oil is rich in functional groups, which has become an important material for the synthesis of polymer materials. The ricinoleic acid refined from castor oil is the main material used in this article, the ricinoleic acid is the only bio-based monomer containing both end hydroxyl and carboxyl and its molecular chain also contains a double bond, this article mainly use esterification reaction of the terminated hydroxyl and terminated carboxyl of ricinoleic acid. We have a study on the homopolymerization of ricinoleic acid and copolymerization with the other bio-based monomers, the same time, we studied the application of the homopolymer and copolymer. Specifically, the main work has the following several aspects:(1)The homopolymerization of ricinoleic acid:first, use the ricinoleic acid have a reaction under 180? and nitrogen atmosphere, Then add the catalyst tetrabutyl titanate and slowly rise the temperature to 220? have a reaction 6?8h.We prepared a ricinoleic acid homopolymer have a molecular weight about 3000, the molecular weight distribution about 2.10. And its structure and thermal performance are analyzed.(2)We use the prepared ricinoleic acid homopolymer as a plasticizer in nature rubber. It is found that the ricinoleic acid homopolymer can be as natural rubber plasticizer, significantly improve the process properties of natural rubber, raise the elongation at break, reduce the hardness of vulcanized nature rubber and raise wear-resisting property etc.(3)We use three bio-based monomers:ricinoleic acid, succinic acid, 1,4-butanediol as copolymers, similarly, have a reaction under 180? and nitrogen atmosphere, Then add the catalyst tetrabutyl titanate and slowly rise the temperature to 220? have a reaction 6?8h. By changing the ratio of ricinoleic acid, prepared a series of different molecular weight copolyester, found that as ricinoleic acid ratio increases, the molecular weight of the copolyester decreases, crystallinity decreases, when ricinoleic acid ratio more than 30% the copolyester crystalline disappear. Different ricinoleic acid content of copolyester's structure, thermal properties etc. were characterized.(4)We choose the ricinoleic acid content of 30% copolymer as a Toughening agent of PBS. And we studied the effects of different content of ricinoleic acid copolymer toughening effect on PBS. And we investigated the mechanical properties of toughened PBS etc. changes.
