Taihu Lake is the important drinking water source in Wuxi and Suzhou. The change of water quality will affect the supplies of drinking water and the safety of the residents. According to the current situation of raw water in Taihu Lake, the quality of raw water and effluent of each unit along process is investigated. On the basis of investigation, characteristics of pollution in Taihu Lake is analyzed and research of long water pipe reactor to purify particular pollutants is carried out. Furthermore, economical and effective combination of pretreatment technology aiming at different raw water in Taihu Lake is developed. Main conclusions are as follows:Characteristic pollutants in Taihu Lake are algae, NH4+-N, PAEs, GSM,2-MIB, microcystin and so on. The range of variation of water temperature, pH, NH4+-N, CODMn, algae, TOC and DOC are 0?30??7?9?0?0.25mg/L?4?6mg/L?8,000,000?40,000,000/L? 3?6mg/L and 1?4mg/L. Crafts along the process can remove pollutants, and long water pipe reactor plays an important role.The removal rates of algae, UV254, NH4+-N, CODMn, TOC, and DOC are 33.3%,7.7%, 35.8%,26.0%,25.5%and 31.7% when the water temperature is 10?20? and the HRT is 8.3h.The removal rates of algae, UV254, NH4+-N, CODMn, TOC, and DOC are 60.0%,23.9%, 68.6%,35.1%,31.7% and 41.5% when available chlorine is 1.8mg/L in raw water before long water pipe reactor. The removal rates of algae, UV254, NH4+-N, CODMn, TOC, and DOC are 95.3%,33.8%,41.9%,50.5%,72.6% and 69.9% when PAC is 30mg/L in raw water before long water pipe reactor. Both can strengthen the removal of pollutants.In view of raw water, Preozonation-Biological contact oxidation-Long water pipe reactor is the process combination for the water temperature under 10?. Preozonation-Biological contact oxidation-(NaClO)Long water pipe reactor is the process combination for the water temperature beyond 10?. Preozonation-Biological contact oxidation-(PAC)Long water pipe reactor is the process combination when the concentration of algae is above 50,000,000/L. Preozonation-Biological contact oxidation-(NaClO)Long water pipe reactor is the process combination when the concentration of NH4+-N is above 2mg/L.In view of the above conclusion, the combination of preozonation, biological contact oxidation and long water pipe reactor is applied in production from 20th in July 2015 to 2nd in August 2015. Power consumption drops obviously and the removal rate of pollutants is enhanced. Then, Preozonation-Biological contact oxidation-Long water pipe reactor can be applied in production. The production cost can be saved and the burden on subsequent runs can be reduced.
