Grinding wheels are widely used in machining hard-brittle materials. However, after a period of gringding time, the wear of grinding wheel is quick, and the accuracy of workpiece can not be guaranteed, So, the grinding wheel needs to be dressed frequently, which increases the processing time and greatly reduces the productive efficiency. Vitrified bonded CBN grinding wheels have the advantages such as high grit hardness, low grinding temperature and good surface quality. It need not to be dressed frequently when machining hard-brittle materials. However, the application is limited for the CBN grinding wheel is difficult to be dressed.To solve this problem, the NC point-contact dressing model is proposed, the dressing mechanism of this method is analyzed in this paper. A series of experiments are carried out, and the grinding performance after dressing is evaluated.The main research works are as follows:(1) A new type of brazing diamond plate wheel was designed and manufactured. The performance of plate wheel is analyzed when the density and size of abrasive changed.(2) The dressing mechanism of the NC point-contact dressing model is analyzed. Optimized parameters such as the velocity ratio between plate wheel and grinding wheel, the axial feed rate, cutting depth are obtained by orthogonal experiment.(3) Forming surface of grinding wheel is processed by the plate wheel, the contour accuracy of the grinding wheel profile can be very high by NC dressing. The good topography of grinding wheel is obtained(4) TC4 titanium alloy is machined by vitrified bonded CBN grinding wheel under the optimized process parameters. The grinding performance of the wheel which is dressed by the plate wheel are evaluated by the roughness of workpiece, topography of grinding wheel, grinding temperature and grinding wheel contour accuracy.
