Chemical production is generally continuous operation at high temperature and high pressure environment, so this requires strict conditions. Startup is a very important work in chemical process, and any negligence or improper handling are prone to accident. Therefore, it is very necessary to carry out intelligent navigation and monitoring in the startup process of chemical equipment. In this paper, the standard operating procedure(SOP) and fault diagnosis strategy in the startup process were deeply studied and used in the operation navigation and monitoring system.This paper studied the characteristics of the standard operating procedure in the startup process, and proposed a set of graphical SOP theoretical model. It can realize the interpersonal interaction in the startup process with the aid of the navigation system. Then, according to the unsteady state characteristics, a fault diagnosis strategy of DPCA based on dynamic simulation was presented. It gets the simulated data through the dynamic simulation and uses DTW to calculate the difference between monitoring data and simulated data. At last, it utilizes PCA to detect faults. A case study was carried out in Penicillin simulation platform. In the startup process, the graphical SOP system can be used to guide operation, but it cannot find fault event timely. Therefore, when the navigation system detects an error, it can immediately stimulate the fault diagnosis strategy. Both two techniques supplement each other, so they can ensure smooth progress of startup from operating procedures and data monitoring.In this paper, the navigation and monitoring system were verified in a temperature control experiment in lab scale. The results prove that the graphical SOP navigation model of this system satisfies the operator's habits and can give guidance in time. In addition, it can also diagnose the fault timely and accurately. Finally, this paper provided a method of intelligent start of the chemical process. It has been verified in the startup process of a lab scale, which provides a powerful theoretical basis for the modernization of the chemical plant.
