Epoxy resin(EP)is widely used in aerospace,electronic and insulation coatings and other areas,due to its light weight,corrosion resistance and insulation.But its brittleness and poor flame retardant limit its application,which has been a technical problem in its flame retardant and modification.Carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs)are considered to be an ideal flame retardant additive due to the unique structure and good thermal conductivity.MWCNTs/EP composites were prepared by ultrasonic dispersion and solution blend method with EP as matrix and MWCNTs as additive.Thermo Gravimetric Analysis(TGA),cone calorimetry,mechanical property analysis,traditional flame retardant performance testing methods were used to analyze the thermal stability,flame retardant properties and mechanical property of the composites.The effect of different functional carbon nanotubes on the epoxy resin and different content carbon nanotubes on the properties of epoxy resin were researched.And the influence of dispersing agent content on the MWCNTs/EP was also studied.The results showed that carboxyl functionalized carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs-COOH)can improve the flame retardant of epoxy resin composites.Thermo gravimetric analysis showed that when the content of MWCNTs-COOH was 1.5wt%,the maximum decomposition temperature of the composites increased about 25?,the burnout temperature increased 185.5?.Cone calorimetry analysis indicated that when the MWCNTs-COOH content was 0.5wt%,the heat release rate was the lowest.The limiting oxygen index shows that when the MWCNTs-COOH content was 2wt%,the flame retardant properties of composites was the best.When the MWCNTs-COOH content was 1.5wt%,the flame retardant properties of composites was the best by the level burning method test.When the content of MWCNTs-COOH was 1wt%,the tensile strength and bending strength increased by 32.97% and 35.3% respectively than the undoped EP.The limiting oxygen index and level burning method shows that when the dispersing agent content was 6wt%,the epoxy resin composites flame retardant performance was the best.Mechanical performance analysis showed that when the dispersing agent content was 4wt%,the mechanical properties of epoxy resin composites was the best.
