In this paper, based on near infrared transmittance scanning,an instrument is designedto realize the detection of heavy oil stability, and with the instrument, conducted the thoroughresearch of detection process, build the mathematical model of the transmittance changeduring detection process.Firstly, analyzed the reason of heavy fuel oil stability problem, and the process ofasphaltene separation are studied deeply. On this basis, analyzed the theoretical basis of thedetection method, demonstrates the feasibility of detection method. Then, according the testing method, heavy oil stability tester has been designed, including the design of control system,near-infrared transmittance detection system, thesmooth operation of the testing platform, the precise positioning solution, the stepping motormotion control algorithm, and expand human-computer interaction function, data read andwrite function, communication and other functions. After the development of the testing equipment, according the detection principle, theerror analysis and functional verification of the testing equipment are cared.Make sure thefunctions are reliable, and provides the improvement scheme for the improvement of thedetection accuracy of the equipment. Finally,by using the instrument, the change of light transmission and particle settlementduring detection process were studied.According to the light transmittance data, the particlesettling velocity and particle diameter distribution of the detection process are estimated andthe detection process is divided into four stages.A mathematical model of the change oftransmittance value in four stages is proposed.According to the mathematical model of thefour stages, the curve of the light transmittance change is fitted, the fitting effect provedmodel is available. This paper provides a method for further study of asphaltene separationprocess, particle concentration and particle diameter during sedimentation.
