Coated cemented carbide tools have become widely used because of its advantages of high hardness and high wear resistance. The substrate of coated carbide tools is hard alloy, fabricated with grinding process. The substrate surface is prone to defects such as the crack, metamorphic layer, residual stress and so on.In this dissertation, the YG8 cemented carbide insert is regarded as the research object, the surface is polished with CMP method. Then Coated cemented carbide tools are prepared with the method of PVD and CVD,and through the contrast test of cutting austenitic stainless steel, the influences of cutting parameters on the cutting force and insert wear were explored. The cutting performance is compared based on the equipment of force measuring instrument, super depth-of-field microscope, scanning electron microscope(SEM)and energy dispersive spectroscope(EDS).The main works in this thesis can be concluded as follows:1)The polishing preprocessing of the rake face of YG8 cemented carbide inserts. The process of the multi process was adopted to polish cemented carbide inserts including rough polishing,semi-finshing and finishing. And then surface quality was observed with super depth-of-field microscope and atomic force microscope(AFM).2)Preparation of coated carbide inserts, after preprocessed respectively with polishing and grinding process. The PVD and CVD methods were used to coat the polishing and grinding substrate, which lay the foundation for the following cutting experiments.3)Experimental study of cutting force of coated carbide inserts.By means of single factor experiment, the influences of cutting parameters on the cutting force of the cemented carbide inserts were revealed by comparing the contrast test of the austenitic stainless steel.4)Experimental research on the wear of the coated carbide inserts.By means of image measuring instrument, scanning electron microscope(SEM)and energy dispersive spectroscope(EDS),The influences of different cutting parameters on inserts were revealed with the contrast experiment of cutting austenitic stainless steel, and the wear mechanism was analyzed. In conclusion,a scientific basis was provided to further improve the cutting performance and optimize the coating process of coated cemented carbide inserts.
