A company in April 2010 to build a set of 304 stainless steel material of high temperature and high pressure pipe reactor, in the test process has occurred in the accident. In order to clarify the cause of the accident, this paper analyzes the failure of the pipeline. The analysis shows that the stress corrosion cracking of the 304 stainless steel pipeline is under the condition of working condition. In order to prevent the accident from happening again, and to ensure the safe operation of the high temperature and high pressure pipeline reactor, the analysis shows that it is a good solution to replace the 304 stainless steel with suitable material. For this purpose, the 316L, Monel 400, Inconel 600 and Inconel 800 four kinds of materials were selected, and the stress corrosion test was carried out under the condition of working conditions. The results show that in the condition of Inconel stress corrosion resistance is better than that of 316L, Inconel 800 and Monel 400 600, therefore decided to Inconel 600 instead of 304 stainless steel material, re built a set of high temperature and high pressure pipeline reaction device, put into operation more than 3 years after the no stress corrosion phenomenon.
